HOLY FAMILY CATECHESIS - Saturday May 15, 2021

Updated: May 15, 2021

HOLY FAMILY CATECHESIS

Growing Healthy Leaders and Community, One Leader, One Family at a Time.”

Saturday, May 15, 2021

THEME: JESUS SAID: BE MY WITNESSES in ALL the WORLD

*WITNESSES: we show others who Jesus is by how we live our lives and how we treat them

OPENING WORSHIP SONG: HE IS HERE

The ASCENSION of Jesus Christ

Jesus is taken into heaven, and the disciples go and tell others about Jesus as He commanded.

FAMILY COMMUNION

This rite is used when the consecrated elements are brought from an earlier celebration of Holy Communion.

Everyone: Make the Sign of the Cross:

Leader: Alleluia, Christ is Risen

Everyone: The Lord is risen indeed!

1. Prayer for Purity

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

2. Prayer for The Ascension of Jesus Christ

Almighty God,

we believe that your Son our Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven

and is now with you praying for us as we learn and grow

through your grace and the power of the Holy Spirit in us,

to be true WITNESSES of your Love and Power in Your Kingdom here on

earth as it is in heaven. AMEN In the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one GOD, AMEN.

3. Watch this video of the Ascension of Jesus

St. Francis Sunday Readings for the Family to Study:

FIRST LESSON: Acts 1: 8-9

Jesus said: …….you will receive power

when the Holy Spirit

comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight.

PSALM 47:2-3, 6-7, 8-9

All you peoples, clap your hands; shout to God with joyful cries.

3 For the Lord, the Most High, is to be feared, (feared = respected) the great king over all the earth,

God has gone up with a shout; the Lord, amid trumpet blasts.

7 Sing praise to God, sing praise; sing praise to our king, sing praise.

8 For God is king over all the earth; sing hymns of praise.

9 God rules over the nations; God sits upon his holy throne.

GOSPEL: Mark 16:15-20

15 Jesus said to them, “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel

to every creature.

16 Whoever believes and is baptized

will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned.

17 These signs will accompany those who believe:

in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages.

18 They will pick up serpents [with their hands],

and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them.

They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

The Ascension of Jesus.

19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them,

was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God.

20 But they went forth and preached everywhere,

while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word

through accompanying signs.
