MASS PREPARATION
Sunday, January 30, 2022
Alleluia, alleluia. The Lord sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives. Luke 4:18 R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Jesus began speaking in the synagogue, saying: “Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.” Luke 4: 21
PRAYER for Saint Michael
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray
And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,
By the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.
AMEN
THE ORDER OF THE MASS
INTRODUCTORY RITES
Prepare us to enter Almighty God’s Presence with our whole being, with reverence and respect.
Whisper a prayer before Mass like the one for children in our Interactive Mass Book: “O good and king Jesus, I love you! I’m glad that I’m at Mass on this day. I will listen for you in the readings. Just waiting to hear what you say. Yes, Jesus, I know you are coming. With the eyes of my faith, I will see. I will welcome you here with the angels and saints-Come into my heart; please visit me. AMEN.
1. The Power of the SIGN OF THE CROSS.
REMEMBER 3 REASONS
God as TRINITY: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit from the beginning: Loves us, Protects us.
Our WORTH as a child of God in God’s Family through Jesus’ life, death, resurrection
Our reason for living: To KNOW, LOVE, and SERVE God
2. OPENING GREETING
“The Lord be with you……”
“Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
“The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit
be with you all.”
Response: “…..and with your spirit.”
Our call to mission in God’s HOLY Presence
3. Act of Penance (Sincere examination of conscience to prepare our hearts to receive the WORD of God and the Body of Christ into our hearts and souls.)
All say:
I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
And, striking their breast, they say:
through my fault,
through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.
The absolution by the Priest follows:
May almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us our sins,
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
4. The Kyrie (“Lord Have Mercy”).
Hebrew: God’s unconditional LOVE
We seek God’s deep LOVE to comfort us
We entrust others to God’s mercy
Lord, have mercy
R. Lord, have mercy
Christ have mercy
R. Christ, have mercy
Lord have mercy
R. Lord have mercy
5. The Gloria
Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to people of good will.
We praise you,
we bless you,
we adore you,
we glorify you,
we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King,
O God, almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,
Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,
you take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world,
receive our prayer;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father,
have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God the Father.
Amen.
6. COLLECT or gathering prayer
Grant us, Lord our God,
that we may:
honor you with all our mind and
love everyone in truth of heart.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Spirits God for ever and ever. AMEN.

WORDS to PONDER as Christ’s Disciple or faithful follower:
First Reading: Jeremiah 1:4-5; 17-19
The word of the LORD came to me, saying: Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you.
Psalm 71
R. I will sing of your salvation. For you are my hope, O Lord; my trust, O God, from my youth. On you I depend from birth; from my mother’s womb you are my strength.
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 13:4-13
Brothers and sisters: Love is patient, love is kind.
Love never fails.
(At the end of time)….faith, hope, and LOVE remain, but the greatest of these is LOVE
GOSPEL: Luke 4:21-30
Alleluia, alleluia. The Lord sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives. Luke 4:18
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Jesus began speaking in the synagogue, saying: “Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.”
Like the prophet Jeremiah in Old Testament times, Jesus spoke GOD’s truth. He WAS sent by God the Father to bring good news to the poor people and to set us all free from sin and death….Some of the people around him did NOT see him as God’s divine SON….They did not believe him……They went after him and tried to kill him….but “Jesus passed through the midst of them and went away.” He was following God’s Plan for him.
BE SURE TO ATTEND HOLY EUCHARIST/MASS this week to be in God’s PRESENCE and hear the HOMILY on these readings…….
